This is a place where I post thoughts and information about riding again after all these years and the KLR 650 that I have for that purpose.

Just back from a non-KLR vacation trip that gave me lots of ideas for future rides in NE California, the Oregon Outback, and the Black Rock Desert area of northern Nevada. I met a KLR 250 rider who was trucking his bike along the east side of the Sierras where he camped and used his bike to get to trailheads. I also saw a trails bike sitting in the parking lot of the Mono Basin Visitors Center. I still wish I had one of those bikes even if I don't know where I'd sit!

Fall Ride to Clear Lake

I left about 7 am for Lake Berryessa and the Knoxville-Berryessa road to Clear Lake. The excuse was to connect with MrMoose and pick up my tankbag and 14 tooth counter sprocket. Lurch drove down from Redding to pick up the KLR fork he had purchased. This road is amazing! It's hard to find such a long stretch of back country without ranchettes and tourists. I nearly had over 30 miles of this road to myself including the Morgan Valley end that connects with highway 53.

This was a cool fall ride that got more overcast but never really rained. I was pretty well ready in any case as I had my "new" tourmaster jacket which kept me warm in this early morning ride that had me hugging shadows for much of the way. I returned the same way but next time I'll branch off to come through the Cache Creek wildlife area and connect with highway 16.

The new used gear I've got now will make for more comfortable winter rides and I plan to do more of that. I covered about 232 mostly backroad miles. There were quite a few other riders in the area on the way back. The early start gave me most of the scenery to myself. Riding west with trailing my shadow rolling before me on an early fall day was just what I needed. More of that when I get back from vacation later this month.
